How to prepare window openings for airtight installation?
To carry out proper airtight installation, the window opening must be properly prepared. The following steps explain how to do it to get a durable and tight connection.
Step 1: Check that the opening is level and stable.
The window opening, also known as the reveal, should be level and stable so that the sealing tapes can be placed properly. If the substrate is uneven, such as made of ceramic blocks, it should be leveled with mortar. It is important that all irregularities are removed before installation.
Step 2: Align the lower part of the window opening.
The lower part of the window opening must be level to ensure stability during window installation. This is especially important because this section will support the weight of the window.
Step 3: Align the entire reveal.
To ensure proper insulation on the outside of the building, the jamb around the window should be aligned around the entire perimeter. The width of the leveled surface should be about 100 mm, which will allow proper adhesion of sealing films. Make sure all edges are even and stable.
Correct preparation:
The window opening is even and stable, with no obvious unevenness.
The lower part of the opening is even and stable.
Incorrect preparation:
The hole is uneven, with pronounced bulges or indentations.
The lower part of the hole is unstable or unbalanced.
