How to determine the door opening direction (right/left)?
The direction of the door opening, whether right or left, is determined by looking at the door from outside the room or building in which it is installed. There are two main methods of determining the door opening direction:
Descriptive Method: The most common method is to describe which side of the door the hinges are on, then specify which side the door opens to.
- If the hinges are on the right and the door opens outwards, we are talking about a "right door opening outwards".
- If the hinges are on the left and the door opens inwards, we speak of a "left door opening inwards".
Drawing method: Another way is to draw a diagram of the door, looking at it from the outside of the building, and mark the position of the hinges and the direction of opening.
- If the hinges are on the right in the drawing and the door opens outwards, it is a "right outward opening door".
- If the hinges are on the left in the drawing and the door opens inwards, it is a "left door opening inwards".
Remember that it is crucial to look at the door from the perspective of a person outside the room or building in which it is installed. In this way, you will clearly determine whether we are dealing with a right or left door and in which direction it opens.
